muffking Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Here we are, pretty much finished now. Thanks to the guy who told me about the recess under the passengar seat BTW. The DVD navigation unit fixes prefectly to the floor there, with room to change the DVD to a newer map in the future.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/aunderseat.JPG The n/s rear quarter panel has plenty of room for all of the extra gubbins that the Navi unit comes with (AV switch box etc).http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/btmc.JPGIt's a ball ache to get the cables up to where the upper compartments live, but there's no other way for them to go.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/cuppercompartment.JPG With the centre compartment upside down there's just enough room to get a rivet gun behind it, which is axactly how I mounted the hinges for the screen. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/duppercompartment(upsidedown).JPG If you're wondering how the hinges fit to the screen BTW, then I removed the casing and rivited the hinges to the rear case first & then insulated them in the inside.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/euppercompartment(rivited).JPG And here's the finished compartment prior to fitting back in the car.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/fuppercompartment(finished).JPG Hey presto  http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1136064/gscreenondash.JPG Quote
NikpV Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 looks a nice job  well done One query - have you removed on of the power connectors in the back left - or did you gal only have one here??? Quote
katman Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 I wish mine was a Mk2. I would love to mount a screen like that but the Mk1 dash is all curvy with nowhere to hide the screen when not in use  Quote
johnb80 Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 It was me that told you about the recess and you're welcome!. Thats almost identical to my Clarion installation, I used velcro on the bottom of the screen and hinged at the top just like you have. It really does make good use of the dash centre storage bin and when it's all folded away no-one knows SatNav is fitted. Regards - JB Quote
muffking Posted April 15, 2006 Author Report Posted April 15, 2006 NikpV: Cheers. I only had the one accessory socket, although before I went looking for a Galaxy I expected one either side of the boot as that's what my last Toyota Avensis Verso had. Katman: If you can't find a screen small enough then maybe a roof mounted or sunvisor screen would do? Quote

Have you got any pics of yours.I thought about putting velcro at the bottom of the screen to stop it slipping back under braking, but pushed a screw up from the bottom of the compartment to sit the mounting thread of the screen on when it's open. Masked Marauder Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Your not worried about putting the DVD unit under the seat though? Quote
muffking Posted April 15, 2006 Author Report Posted April 15, 2006 Not unless you know something that I don't. The only thing I can think of is interference to the side airbag and seatbelt controls, but there's a metal sheild that comes out to separate the loom from the explosive charge above the sill, that way I was able to run the DVD loom alongside the main Galaxy loom to the rear. johnb80 Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 I think he will be referring to the possibilities of flooding, see messages on the subject. One of the favourites is the rear screen washer pipe has a joint under the carpet and it's not unknown for these to seperate. Having said that, raise the unit up on some foam or just keep an eye on the passenger footwell, it would have to be really bad and go un-noticed for it to get into this area but it is a possibilty. muffking Posted April 16, 2006 Author Report Posted April 16, 2006 Thankfully I stuck a thick piece of plastic & double sided foam sticky strips under the DVD unit to stop any vibration, so hopefully that would have raised it a little, although it was bone dry in there to begin with. Funny thing is when I was laying the power cables along the sill I saw that my rear washer pipe had disconnected. I hadn't realised that it was common, so I just pushed it back in again, but if my rear washer stops working again then I'll glue the pipe back together next time. Quote
