tomy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 Hi all Just changed our car for our galaxy and just wanted to ask a few things . The remote central locking works but you have to be very close to the car and hold it in the right place , is this likely to be a knackered battery in the key???? Also the interior light when the switch is in the middle position ie so the light comes on when the door is open and goes off when its shut is on permanently when in this position, where should i look first , at the door switches???? thanks in advanve Steve Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 The early remote system is are an Infra Red system and have a short range  due to the position of the recievers it's also a line of sight system as you've already found out! you could try cleaning the remote recievers? see if there is any dust/grime blocking the signal? or just upgrade to a radio remote system as otheres have done  as for the interior light, try the door switches first, they are cheap just get a couple and swap them out in turn till you find the duff one  Quote
tomy Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 Could i just change the key and the reciever to upgrade to the radio remote system ???? or is it more involved than that? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 It's bit more involved than that <_< go for the after market kit, you can get one where the remotes click onto the keys and look like an OE fitment ;) Quote
Guest dtr36 Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 will are glx on a r plate have remote locking?not got a plip etc ? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Remote locking was an option on the GLX <_< so it may not have it? check for the remote recievers in the head lineing above the rear veiw mirror and above the rear hatch? Quote
ole Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 It's bit more involved than that  go for the after market kit, you can get one where the remotes click onto the keys and look like an OE fitment :DMy -98 galaxy did not have the remote so I went for a system of ebay. 15 minutes to connect, and working well. The remote was type flip key and I took a blade from a key with a flashlight, modified it a bit, and on with it. Had to put the transponder in there too and all ok :D.Later I found uncut blades on ebay too.... Quote
_dg Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I have seen these units on ebay - 2 x flip out keys like Audi ones and a receiver? But the details are minimal, and I wondered if the transceiver code was rotated or fixed so that another remote on the same frequency could not unlock your car in the car park! Quote
