Guest ajaycad Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Buggered if I can find the leak!!!I have fixed the pollen filter, re-joined the rear wash pipe, but water is still getting into the footwell  Firstly, how easy is it to remove the front carpets and sound proofing to a) trace the leak and  to dry out the soundproofing. Also where else could the source of the leak be. Quote
Andrew T Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 The matting is in a single piece with the drivers side. I've not heard of anyone removing the whole thing, as a lot of stripping would be required. I cut out the matting section (beneath the carpet) in the passengers floor well by sawing it out with a short kitchen devil knife (and a revolting job it is too). as far as the leak is concerned if you've eliminated the washer pipe and pollen filter how about clearing the scuttle drains from underneath ? (do a search) or failing that there are odd reports of poor windscreen sealing. Pipe / Clearing Scuttle Drains. Quote
Guest ajaycad Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Checked the scuttle drains...........all clear. Quote
Topbloke Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Do you have a sunroof iirc the front drain pipes run down the a posts Quote
Lee1303 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Had the same problem with water ingress on mine, which started about 3 months ago. Cleaned the scuttle drains, checked the sunroof drains, inspected the rear wash pipe and removed the vent fan to see if there was any water in the duct system, but water was still getting in. Next step was to have the windscreen out for re-sealing. However, prior to that I tried one last thing. Removed the corner trim around the bottom of the windscreen, taking wiper arm off first and then carefully lifted off trim from 3 push in clips. The upper clip is fixed in the 'A' pillar and had a sticky backed pad around the hole as well as being set in some sort of silicone. The silicone had dried out and cracked and the whole area around the clip was full of dirt. Removed clip cleaned area and did away with sticky pad and old silicone. Reset clip back into hole with plenty of fresh silicone and re-assembled. Done this on both sides. Sprayed windscreen with hosepipe, and had quite a bit of rain over last week with no sign of any more leaks!!!!!! Quote
Guest ajaycad Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 I dont have a sunroof, so its not that. I did wonder if it was the base of the windscreen, but I would like to try and remove the carpet/soundproofing and see if I can trace the leak. I will have a go at sealing the lower trim on the windscreen though.......thanks for that. Quote
delboyt Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 on the scuttle drainsdid youremove the underwing & pull off therubber one way door that allowsthe water to escape under the wingfrom the hed nr the pollen filteri removed mine & never replaced then &all seem's fine nowdo it then try with a watering can to see if they are clear.make sure your not letting any water under the passengers seat oryou will have problems Quote
steelblue ghia Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 I had the same problem with water in the footwell,I did remove the carpet from the front,it wasnt too difficult, sill cappings , centre console ,handbrake cover to remove and I also had to remove the sound proofing matting as well,a hell of a job!!!,in the end I ended up cutting the matting along the transmission tunnel and up high against the bulkhead,it took a week to dry out !!.I thought our leak was coming in through that small plastic corner windscreen scuttle panel as the mastic had dried up and water was entering through it when I put the hosepipe over it.I resealed it ,thought job well done and left it overnight.downpour overnight and went to check the footwell in morning, guess what?, flooded passenger compartment again !!! I then found our water leak within 5 mins!,removed the little dash panel by front quarter light glass, prized out the little grommets on the screen pillar ,removed the screws and the trim panel pulled away, the wife sprayed the hosepipe over the screen and there was a stream of water flowing down the side of the pillar, running behind the dash and gathering in a nice little lake in the footwell  only when the windscreen was replaced I could see how bad the factory bonding of the screen had been,it was like braille B) our gal is now watertight and doesnt smell like a rotten cabbage anymore, remove your screen pillar trim on the passenger side and give the screen a spray, you never know !!! Quote
Guest ajaycad Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Okay I,ve removed the whole front interior trim, carpets, seats etc and I too had to cut the soundproofing along the Tx tunnel. The passenger side is now as I speak in a beach tent which is in the garage, with a dehumidifier in the tent as well to dry it out. I had the hosepipe over the car, and nothing leaking after sealing the windscreen trim fixings !!Isn,t it amazing what you find under seats, deposited by the previous owners kids  Quote
smedzz Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 ive had the same problem with water, done all of the above mentioned and still water. until the manager at jfp {just ford parts}told me about the rubber grommet under passenger side carpet at top end of floorwell.he say's they are the main cause for water leaks and to take it out and re-silicon it.this is a major flaw on ford's behalf as they were put there to let water out .not let it in..anyways just done mine ,carpets all bone dry now just waiting for the to see if it has solved the problem at last!!!!
