I am looking to retro fit a load cover and have followed the helpful instructions posted by NikpV in an earlier thread about speaker replacement, to remove the rear quarter-panel.

Got it off safely, nothing broken.... yet!

Anyway, I can see the markings on the back of the panel where I need to cut out to receive the brackets but I have two questions.

Firstly, what it the recommended method of cutting the panel - I have visions of the material on the front snagging and laddering.

Secondly, I think I need something to fit between the bracket and the car. The bracket has two screws which are horizontal but the car has two holes, one larger than the other which are vertical (picture hopefully attached).

If as I suspect there is a bit between the car and the bracket, how is this fixed in place and will my Ford or VW dealer have this for sale?

Thanks very much.

Pal

score the back of the card with a sharp craft knife till the cut out section is ready to push out, then remove it from the back leaving the outer fabric in place, then cut through this so you can fold it over the cut out edge leaving a nice finished edge

the parts for mounting the load cover are all available from the dealers, including the pop rivets that hold the internal mounting brackets in place behind the quarter panel,IIRC the part numbers are listed somewhere? if not I have the VW part numbers ;)

Thanks Wolfie,

If you can let me have the VW part numbers that would be great as I hear they are a little cheaper than Ford anyway. :D

I presume they are identical parts including colour?

Please can you give me all the component parts except the actual load cover.

My interior is flannel grey.

Thanks.

I got together sufficient info to give me the confidence to give this a go.

I was daunted by having to cut large holes in the panel and not knowing what was behind the panels until I had taken them off.

Panel off and bracket fixed:

And the cost........ cover from e-bay

Great job. Have been thinking of fitting a cover for a while but was a bit weary of cutting the panels.

I also rang Frauds and VW for a price of the brackets.

Others beware: Frauds

well done looks real good i haven't got the b*llocks to start cutting bits of my car out.

Cutting the bits out is the easy part, the cut-outs are marked in dotted lines on the back of the panels.

Getting the panels off is the time consuming bit.

Oh and also..dont think anyone has mentioned there are 2 different types of Load cover one for Galaxys with rear heaters and one for those without rear heaters.....they are different lengths and the nearside rear bracket is different.

The vast majority are for the Gals with rear heaters.....if you dont have a rear heater be careful !

rear heater is that the aux heater?

The aux heater is under the left hand rear of diesel gals. The rear heater(if fitted) is behind the left hand trim beside the third row of seats. Andy.

Nope its the Additional Heater ( big lump in the nearside rear interior wing, difficult to miss !)

The Auxiliary Heater ( note the correct spelling ) is the modified jet engine/smoke generator/silent exhaust pipe ( delete as appropriate ) under the rear passenger door.

I thought I just said that? Andy.

Still gives me a headache i got the jet engine/smoke generator but not sure about the rear heater although i assumed i did as i don't have a storage compartment on the left hand side at the back anymore like my old gal did. I've only got the floor vents at the back even though my CC display allows me to adjust the rear temp higher than the front?

I didn't know that - I just bought a cover from e-bay from a 2006 Alhambra!!!! Thought it would fit...... luckily it does. :D

For info my Galaxy does have the rear heater.

thanks for the part numbers. I guess when i rang VW they thought they could make a quick killing or may be it was just a bad time and day to ask for something. Edited by Big Tyke

I wonder if we went to the same VW dealer? The guy there was reluctant to look up the parts for me in fact I am sure he tutted as he walked away to the computer. Anyway after too long looking up the wrong parts he suggested I went to Ford!!!! That's what I call customer service.

Ford were helpful but you had to visit and pay before they would order the goods. However they did fax me over the attached sheet to help identify what was needed.

The guy on the Parts desk at SEAT was fantastic. He did it all over the phone and had it ready for collection the next morning.

Good luck.
