Having looked at VW flip key remotes I had thought that a folding key for the older Galaxys wasn't possible - however I've just bought and fitted these to my 99 2.3 Si. Although the wiring diagram supplied gave the wrong wiring colours, installation was straightforward thanks to Mussey1's excellent picture and wiring colour codes. Only 6 wires to connect and everything tucked in nicely beside the fusebox. The global closing doesn't work and although it may be possible, I don't think I'd use it anyway - the rear windows are manual and there's more chance of the kids leaving one of them open. Also I haven't wired up the boot release - can anybody tell me if it would work if I did? The indicators do flash on lock/unlock. The remotes are a bit plasticky but ok for the money and look like they should last a while. Transmitter range is excellent. I've still to get the keys cut and I'll have to find somewhere in the remote to take the PATs chip but I'm hoping there'll be no problems there. All in all 2 flip key RCL remotes for under

Anyone know what the chances of getting this to work on a 96 Tdi?

It has Central Locking (remote part I can`t get to work!)

Not worried about just using the remote part and using the orginal key for starting.

Anyone......please?

Yes, this was wired to my existing locking which was working fine with the key, it just wouldn't work with the original remote. New batteries and recoding wouldn't fix it so I assume the remote was knackered.

All you need to connect are 3 supply wires, one earth wire and a wire each to the central locking unlock/lock trigger wires, all can be found at the fusebox. The fact that you can lock with the remote would suggest to me that your unlock trigger wire is broken between the fusebox and door lock probably in the flexible boot between the door and pillar. If the trigger wire is broken then you'll be in the same situation with a replacement remote.

If you already have central locking that works with the key then I see no reason why it shouldn't work with your car

I've run into a bit of hassle getting the key cut. Even the local VW dealer in Aberdeen can't cut them and have to send them away and wanted

cheers chicosi,,,,,,,,,do you have a local TIMPSON (key cutting company here in Glasgow,,,got them all over the place), they can do them

Its the remote, had it tested at local car part shop,,,,,,,pointed it at a red box, if lights up remote works, no lights it not work :D

If its an infra red type key, you can test it yourself by pointing it a mobile phone (if its got a camera that is)

You don`t?

Thats because you have a 98 model........only fitted to 96 models......discontinued in late 97 after people complained that the pictures were so small and usually only of the ignition barrel

I may be confusing myself here......it doesn`t take much these days.

Is the LED in the door part of an alarm or just to indicate the doors are locked?

If I fit this type of system will it affect any of the other security features?

I know the PATS stuff is transponder based so the immobiliser part is taken care of by that.

Just worried that if any type of alarm is fitted already will this fit to the existing system and work together with the alarm, or will the alarm need to be disarmed/armed independantly?

Would it be possible to see the fitting instructions?

TIA

Superb,,,,fitted today 20mins,,,,,,,wire for power and a wire for earth and two wires to the drivers door,,,(all wires accessable at the fusebox) and it all works great,,,,,led in door works indy flash on lock and unlock and I can lock the car while sitting in the house and car on drive 10 to 15 metres away,,,,,,,,,

Thanks to chicosi for showing us this system,,,,,,,,,,and the extra wiring diagrams,,,,,,,,, :)

Just one question,,,,,,,,why did Ford not do it this way in the first place????????????????? :)

Keith,

Here's the link to Mussey1's post regarding the fusebox and wiring codes

Mussey1's post

And attached is the wiring diagram supplied with the kit

I ignored the unlock/lock wire colour codes supplied with the kit and went with Mussey1's colours

Everything can be hooked up at the fuse box

Any more info just shout!

chicosi, did you get the transponder chip fitted yet,,,,,,,if you pop off the bmw sign underneth are two screws, remove them and inside is a space to fit the chip,,,,,be carefull when you separate the two halves the actual key tries to pop off its spring,,,,,,,, :(

Did that ages ago if you read my post :(

I undid the battery cover, removed the circuit board and there's a little pocket at the front of the key. Popped the chip in there and stuck a blob of bluetack in to hold it in place.

All I need now is a little Ford logo to replace the BMW one

If you're anything like me, how long did you spend looking out the living room window locking and unlocking and watching the indicators flash? :(
