NikpV Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 Hi all, Can anyone enlighten me as to why I have to sign in constantly all of a sudden?Every time I come onto the board I have to sign in and before I do I do not see the emoticons, they just appear as text. Also has the "Edit" button moved (or dissapeared) I just tried to edit one of my posts and couldn't see it Please Help its driving me nuts! have you changed how cookies are handled on your machine ?? the site is definitely odd when not signed in !!! If you click login you should get two tick boxes on the right one for 'remember me' and th other for 'anonymous login' make sure the top one is ticked, you only seem to see these boxes when you dont type your name in the first screen but just hit the login button, it gives you the login/password on the left clearing site cookies sometimes helps (main page at the bottom) Neil has posted that the edit button will be back when the sql version has settled down - I worry its gone the same way as the delete button - us kids are far too silly to be allowed such powerful toys as delete and edit buttons :16: BTW until the edit button reappears I'm correcting posts by reposting underneath - if quickly enough it will add to the post above (if its still yours) otherwise it just adds another post to the server (+ overhead) oh it looks like the 'merge post' time has been changed as well ;) Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 OK the remember me check box when you use the full LOGIN screen will enable you to remain logged inon your own PC as for the edit and delete button they will return when not only the DB settles down but along with everything else it takes time to get things running all smoothly after a major upgrade, which this forum has managed to retain where others cannot. We should be happy with the new look and feel its been a very long struggle for Glen to get it here. Be patient it will improve as things are ironed out. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 unless Glen has a change of heart..the edit button is gone for now. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 (edited) Glen will put the edit button back when he has the chance. Edited January 6, 2007 by mumof4 Quote
Gteuk Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I shouldn't have to justify what I have done or for what reasons but here goes. The edit button can cause more problems than it resolves, i.e. it has been noted that in the past ppl will say things on the forum get a thread going and then totally change their post and what is being portrayed in it, therefor the topic makes no sense. The other thing is when a member or two gets upset and decides to leave they take all the posts with them leaving the topics totally disjointed or useful information removed. All topics posted done so with consent by yourselves and therefore become the property of the forum to help others, this forum is a great source of information and I for one like to keep it that way. this is not a stab at one individual but we cannot grant permission to a single user in the member group at this time and then others would be annoyed if we had the facility to grant permissions to some but not others. Gteuk Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 The simple answer, I will put the edit button back on when I feel I am happy it will not be abused by other members. Quote

Gteuk Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 some ppl are having strange problems so can you please let me know what browser and version you are using and the error that is occuring as I am not getting these problems. Ensure that you have deleted your cookies and removed all temp files to ensure the error is clean and not cached. Quote
Gteuk Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Fast reply is a global setting so should appear on all topics also Quote
gregers Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 er no it dosent seem to appear on all topics, have cleaned up my machine etc,how do i find out what version browser im running, ive got 2 to choose from and they both seem to be having problems but it seems ok on the vauxhall forum Quote
Gteuk Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Usually help and about in the top menu strip of the browser unless IE7 then by tools or it is replaced by two little arrows next to tools. Quote
tiny Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 Im using AOL, I have IE7 installed, and has been since it was a beta. I still have to log in every time i use the board. Yes, I use the remember me button. No I have not changed anything on my computer, especially browser settings. All was fine until the site overhaul. Now when I enter the site to view topics all the emoticons are shown as text, and I can not post until I have logged in. Im not complaining, just looking for a little help or a suggestion as to what I can do if you believe the problem is at my end. As I say I have changed nopthing on my PC. As for the edit button, does this engine not allow you to set a time limit for edits? Another forum I use allows 90mins to edit posts before they become permanent. Cheers Quote
gregers Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 glen thanx for the pointer,im running version 6 by the looks of it Quote

NikpV Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I'm sure Glen posted somewhere that he had hacked to get over the new encrypted cookies - to correct this problem Quote
