They sold you the wrong oil! The "E" range Ford oil is "value" (cheap) oil, and is definitely not suitable for your PD diesel engine which requires VW505.01 spec oil. (Beware that someone doesnt sell you VW 505.00 oil - that's another totally unsuitable oil!)

The PD engine is probably the most fussy engine in the world when it comes to oil. Use the wrong oil and you risk rapidly worn camshaft/PD injectors.

AFAIK the only Ford oil suitable for your PD is the Formula SD 5W-40. Go to VW/Audi/Skoda dealer and pick up Quantum PD oil instead.

Remember look for 505.01 on the can!

is the 4 litre a new thing?

haven't seen them before

an irritating size since you need 4.5l for an oil change I'm sure formula SD is not

Thanks All,

I've bought some 505.01 !

The offending dealer was M53 Ford in Birkenhead. I queried it with M53 Ford at Ellesmere Port, they said it's definitely the right one.

I spoke to Peoples Ford @ Speke, they said don't put that oil in, it's wrong - Formula SD only.

I think we all know who will and won't be servicing that car.

Cheers.

I sent them a mail saying I didn't see why I should pay a premium rate charge to discuss a mistake by one of their dealers - they should be paying me for the inconvenience. No response so far and I'm not holding my breath.

Still that other post shows all I need to see, thanks.

My local Ford dealer also had no idea that the Galaxy was supposed to use 505.01 spec oil, they looked at me as if I was daft, they told me they use the large drum of standard diesel oil in all their servicing of diesel vehicles of all type, YIKES.......... and that was the service manager.........YIKES YIKES ! They didn't even stock the correct oil in their parts department, it had to be ordered in specially. Glad I do all my own oil changes. Just how many people with expensive tdi Galaxy mk1 & 2s are going to be having premature engine failures.

headless..whereabouts you located, i used to live in Eastham. .

And I used to live in Wallasey (back up that way tomorrow!) .... Had problems with both of the M53 Ford dealerships when I had my Mondeo. The Birkenhead branch even suggested that I couldn't replace the batteries in my remote key fob, I had to get a new fob!!!! I went and bought the replacement batteries from a jewellers in Liscard and took it to the parts desk and changed them in front of them. Called them w*nkers and left. Steer clear!

The name of the page should say it all as 0870 numbers are higher than standard rates.

You often get a freephone number or at the very least a Geographical one which can be phoned at normal rates.

Using Skype whilst in Belgium, France or Spain it costs me a max of 1.2p/minute to connect in this way.

I also have an 0161 *** **** number which rings in my Caravan or wherever I am logged on in Skype for I think its
