Guest Matt007 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Hey, i dont know if this has be said befor, but i know some people where saying that they are having aircon problems. I recently took my galaxy to have some belts changed, and the man at the garage said that the aircon belt had been disconnected. So i phoned ford, who said that people do it in order to get an extra 7-8 miles to the gallon aprox. Dont know if that would help anyone, and i guess it only really applies to secondhand ones. Matt Matt, you might want to check the compressor sooner rather than later. if there's no telling how long it's been out of service for it may have seized and that's going to cost big bucks to replace. hope you have a warranty if this is the case. And knowing how tight most people are over here, i would imagine that its been done for the reason ford said - to get 7-8 miles to the gallon more. Matt Quote

Dave-G Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 You can check if the compressor is seized by two methods: Visually: By looking to see if it's shaft is rotating while the engine is running - and aircon at the coolest setting. Ideally get someone to switch it on while you check if the clutch starts to rotate - and stops when they select a warm setting (it's inside the pully that is attached to the AC compressor) Manually: With the engine off reach down (roll ya sleeves up now :( ) try to rotate the components you can see inside the AC compressor drive pully. It should rotate quite freely. If it dont... you got a seized compressor :lol: Quote

To be honest I hardly notice much Increase in fuel consumption in the summer. Perhaps because the heating is not using as much diesel. Quote

Agreed - I'm affraid. Ithink that the fact that it is common is not that folk are after the extra miles, its cos the aircon don't work and is too expensive to fix!!! sanjsanj Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 In the classic brainiac style: heres one for you.I've been thinking about this: Why dont you just run the A/C on the LO setting. then, when the temp inside of the car is BELOW the temp you want it to be, press Recirculate mode and then press EC or ECON.That way, your keepint the cool air inside and the hot air outside.....you would only need to switch it back to A/C when the temp's gone up a bit. I'm a newbie and have managed to spend the last four nights reading up about the problems encountered with loss of power due to the MAF sensor. Heading away for two weeks hols with the fam' but am planning to get it sorted as soon as I get back - hopefully its just the MAF !!!!!!!
