greg_68 Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I want to check my oil level in my gearbox (auto) but once the undertray was off yesterday I could not see any obvious fill points, level check plugs, etc. Can anyone help preferably with photo's or TIS diagrams. I have searched and searched again but all the previous posts with piccies attached seemed to have dissapeared. B) And I can't find my TIS disc to look, :D and the heavens opened whilst getting the undertray off yesterday so I got soaking wet doing it B) but apart from that everything just dandy. :D p.s I did not see anything that resembled a drain tube that I recall is supposed to drip oil out of when the level is correct. Are these actually on the 2.8? Thanks for all the help as usual. Quote

dipsomaniac Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 it is probably best done by an autobox specialist but search for 'transmission fluid check' (any date) if you want to attempt it youself. Quote
Guest vr6174bhp Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 On the rear of the gear box sump is a cut out with a tube in the recessed section, this is the fluid level check/drain pipe, this a two section device, the lower section, the first part you undo is the level check section, with the fluid up to temperature (35/45C a quick spin round the block should get high enough? ) you undo this part and if fluid drips out then the level is ok, if it doesnt then top it up via the filler cap on the front top side of the gearbox, pull the retaining clip out and pop the cap off, top up the fluid till it drips out of the overflow spout if your changeing the fluid then you need to remove the overflow tube from the gear box, done by sticking the correct sized Allen key up the spout and undoing it, with this off the majority of the fluid will drain out, if you want to a full fluid change runit for a few days and repeat the above a couple of times to totally replenish it Quote
