marinabrid Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 oh yes hereas a brief run down for anyone going to do the job. it seems that some have it easy, i done two now and both taken 3-5 hours.unscrew exhaust bolt ,, shears offthen exhausts falls from heater unit, needs welding back on4 :blink: bolts holding bracket to body, 2 sheard off upper and lower mounting cage bracket bolts both sheard off.air inlet pipe totally fell apart.cant do job without reMoving unit, far easier to remove water pipes and take outvery little water loss, just clamp em or bend and tie wrapclamped water hoses and removed the unitall top screws to fan rusted away , had to hacksaw em off.all four body bolts to get to glow plug rusted awaytwo allen bolts had to drill outgot inside swop plug re aaembletested old glow plug and it burnt red, have i wasted me time!!!!!!!!!!!put new one in anyway.drill out cage bolts to put new ones input back togetherstarted at 11.45am finished at 4.45pm three tea breaks 5 mins eachdid job at local bus garage , any tool on hand.pity any poor sod doing job outside with few tools hear endeth the lesson. Jeff115 Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 very little water loss, just clamp em or bend and tie wrapclamped water hoses and removed the unitVW/SEAT recommend bleeding coolant circuit again if pipes are removed at the water heater by iteratively1. raising front of car by approx 50 cm2. topping up coolant3. lowering car again and doing test drive 'til engine reaches normal operating temp until coolant circuit is free of air bubbles...
