How Do You Change A Light Bulb?

Serious, honest, does anyone know how to replace a rear drivers side brake light bulb. When I tried using the clip to disconnect the bulb essemby, the bulb wont clear the socket.

The jack holder assembly prevents it. Does anyone know if I have to unscrew the assembly or remove the lens?

I have recently purchased this 2002 Ford Galaxy Ghia and still working through the warning lights etc.

Any advice would be welcolme.

See the thread started by Ivor he also is having fun changing a bulb! IIRC on a previous post on this topic it was decided that the bracket has to come out in order to allow the lamp holder to be removed

yep bracket has to come off - before realising this I spent about 30 mins jiggling assembly trying to do it without :lol:

...and you will have fun finding a screwdriver to fit that rearmost screw. I can now confirm that without it being replaced, there is no rattle, so I am well prepared for the next time I need to change a bulb in this cluster !

 

I was also surprised at the amount of "junk" I had to remove from behind the trim panel - first aid kit, warning triangle, wheelbrace spider, long arm wheelnut removal tool, various rags etc etc - this increased substantiallt the time taken to change the bulb, and of course re-fitting it all in afterwards was much harder than pulling the bits out in the first place !

And dont forget all the other JUNK you had to remove in order to get into the boot :lol: mind you there are times when a little junk can come in handy! last week end we went out in my Golf, all was fine till I plugged in the removable face plate for the stereo :huh: and smoke! lots of it! started pouring out of the dash :o so with out thinking or delay I popped the bonnet and tried to disconnect the battery, but not having any tools/junk in the car it wasnt possible :o so I looked in the door pocket and there was one solitary radio removal key :D but for a Kenwood not a Sony :( still did the job though :D one U/S radio later sitting in the boot and half a melted loom unplugged, we were on our way home :D I now have a little junk in the boot for emergency reasons :lol:

I did replace the screw IIRC I used a screwdriver bit and a small spanner across the hexagon, talking of the junk needing removal - a portable potty :lol: :lol: with plastic bags and absorbent liners - unused I hasten to add.

Thanks to all who responded. With your help managed to sort it, not without the fiddling around suggested. I now have a spare self tapper if anyone needs it.

i can change abulb in mine without having to remove any screws it is a pain in the a##se but it can be done twist it to the right and left lift it up push it down swear at it and hey presto its out then do the same in reverse........................hold on perhaps your ways better :lol:

I changed both my rear brake light bulbs (went within a week of each other) without having to remove any brackets. It was really fiddly on the OSR but just manageable.

 

Did they change something in 2003 build cars??

:( Ah but Dally....yours is a nice shiny new model with the "new improved blue whitener in it" version....which perhaps didnt get supplied with a warning tringle to fit to a bracket in "the boot" :lol:

It does have a bracket for a 1st aid kit and warning triangle and both spots are occupied. Must have been redesigned in later models.
