Guest sgs Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Hi, new to the site and I'm looking for advice concerning my Galaxy 2.0L 8v. 1996 62000miles full service history.I've just bought the car last week and have found it to be hesitant on acceleration, it will pull ok upto about 2000rpm and the seems to surge its' way up the rev range. Also when under costant throttle I can feel the surging (idle smooth but slightly high 950rpm). To start with I thought it was running in warm up as the temp gauge would not enter norm. Have tested thermosat and was faulty so fitted new one and now ok (in norm). Have had a diagnosis test today and was told to try and run the car with the MAF sensor dissconnected this has made very little difference, if any. Tonight I've checked the plugs and they look good, also checked the camshaft posistion sensor and have a reading of 489ohms, think this is ok. The last owner says she has never noticed a problem and the garage which has been servicing (every 6 months!) has said the same.I've looked through the first 69 topics here and found a lot about MAFs' but all seem just a bit different from my problem. Can any one help shed some light or maybe surgest some info on sensors/ECU.Regards Steve. Quote
seatkid Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 If I was the suspicious type (which I am) I would say thats probably why she got shut! Only car I owned that "surged" was a old Polo - the surging was due to a burnt valve seat. A compression test revealed the cause... But perhaps you should try a proper plugin dealer diagnostic. to try and pin it down. Quote
Guest sgs Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Thanks satkid. Cylinders pressures are even and good. I know the symtoms from brunt valve/valve seats, what I get is very subtle and feels like an electrical/fuel problem. I have seen a artical that says the ecus on the early galaxys where changed or reprogramed, does anyone know about this ever happening? Thanks again Seatkid. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Have you been to a dealer and asked if they can check that all recall work has been done on the car, and ask if any software upgrades are available? Quote
Guest sgs Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Ivor, no I haven't, thought it would be to late because of the age of the car. Can you still do this after a period of time or is there a time limit? Thanks Ivor. Quote
Guest sgs Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Have been in contact with FORD and asked about Ecu up grade. Was feed a load of S**T. He wanted a blank cheque. Told him to stuff it. Never delt with a Ford dealerships before, and didn't rate the customer service. So I need to source a new ecu and someone with ford equipment to set it up.Thanks for the advice guys off to start a new thread about ecus'.
