DaveJH Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 My 2005 reg 150 bhp TDI appears to have suddenly developed clutch slip at 25k miles (my previous Galaxy did 130k without problems). Typical symptom occur when driving in 5th or 6th gear at say 2000 rpm: when accelerating hard the revs rise distinctly (sometimes by up to 600 rpm) but the speed remains fairly flat until the clutch appears to rebite and the revs suddenly drop back. Any suggestions, confirmations or advice please before I book it in to Fords when they reopen after Easter. Regards DaveJH Quote
pete3300 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 Hi Did you ever get a resolution to this issue. I have a Galaxy showing almost identical symptoms. Thank you Pete Quote
insider Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 I had a similar problem here - http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ost&p=85960.It still does it sometimes. Quote
oily49 Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Sounds like classic symptom of a worn clutch exept the milage is too low!! Just had mine done for the first time at 130K miles. Ford dealers wanted over Quote
taxi man Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 hi i had similar problem on 55 plate tdi at 20k or so turned out the slave cylinder for clutch started to leak inside the gear box on the clutch plate from what i was told by ford its reasonably common thank god for warrenty Quote
sepulchrave Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 There has been a spate of problems with the dual mass flywheel which can cause this. Quote
Witchmaster Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 My recently aquired 1999 TDi has slipped on the clutch twice on different occasions. Both times in 4th gear only and only once each time pretty early on in starting a journey. After which drives fine with no problems. Clutch? Duel Mass Flywheel? slightly leaky slave cylinder? Quote
BrianH Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 AFAIK the mk1s don't have a DMF? Are you finding the brake fluid level to be dropping? (you may need to check the reservoir for this rather than relying on the light) Quote
Witchmaster Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) I have an invoice from the service history of the car which say that the Duel Mass Flywheel clutch and slave cylinder were replaced 45k miles ago.I also think I may have read somewhere that 1999 models have many of the Mk2 specs. Brake fluid? what has that to do with the clutch? Edited June 15, 2015 by Witchmaster Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 On the MKII disks there is only one reservoir for both brake and clutch. Not sure about the petrol models though. Quote
BrianH Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) Petrol mk1 is the same. I'd see no reason to think the mk 2 would change. Other Ford's I've seen are the same. Just the inlet for the clutch is higher up the reservoir so it doesn't take it below the min level of there is a leak. Edited June 15, 2015 by BrianH Quote
Witchmaster Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 OK I have a TDI but I will check the level Quote
Witchmaster Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 I have checked fluid level which is at normal. However since doing so I have had no more clutch slips at al ?In total it only happened 3 times in all but I will keep my eye on things.l Quote
BrianH Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 It may be the bearing sticking particularly if the cars been sat for a while without being used, keeping an eye on it sounds like the sensible option at the moment. Quote
Witchmaster Posted July 9, 2015 Report Posted July 9, 2015 Well after several weeks of driving my clutch slip problem seems to have cured itself. So maybe Brian was right and the clutch bearing may have been a bit sticky. Quote
