Window Winder Handles

I have in front of me a window handle from one of the rear windows of my 2003 Galaxy.

 

Quite simply the screw that secures the handle to the spindle has come loose, resulting in the handle parting company with the door. :rolleyes:

 

The question is: How do I dismantle the handle in order to access the screw to tighten the unit back up?

 

I have not found any way that doesn't involves scratching or damaging the metal or plastic trim on the handle.

 

Any ideas, please? <_<

there is a spring circlp behind the door handle

use a amall flat headed scredrive to get between the metal & plastic part of the handle.

if you prize it open you will see the clip

all you do then is pust it & it will come off

 

to put it back on press it over the 2 slits in the handle & push the whole thing onto the spline on the door

Unfortunately I havn't been able to prize the mtal and plastic parts of the handle far enough apart to see any circlips. :o

 

Any more useful ideas?

I'm not sure what Galaxy/Galaxie ? your dismantling Delboyt but MK1 winders come off by pushing the inner ring of the handle where it sits over the shaft away from the direction of main handles body, that undoes the securing clip and the handle pops off, on MK2'S the wider handles are still held in place by a screw and the cover needs to be removed to gain access to the screw :o that part unfortuanately I cant see how that happens :o

have you tried slideing it off? as the section over the fixing screw is wider maybe it slides off that end? there could be a retaining clip under the winding knob end?

That seems the way to do it: at the knob end, there is a tiny catch behind the plastic trim. You need to get a very small (precision) screwdriver between the metal and plastic, and gently slide the trim off away from the knob.

 

(I checked with a tame Ford Techie, a useful pesron to know!) :o

 

It is a fiddly job, and does leave a small mark on the trim (Perhaps that's just my clumsiness).

 

Anyway, handle and door now reunited. Thanks for your helps on that one.

I am alway tempted to remove the rear winder handles! I get rather annoyed finding out the my youngest has been playing with it and cracked the window open just enough to allow water from the hose through but not wide enough to be seen unless you look closely :o

I can identify with that: Previous car was a Volvo :D with all round electric windows.

 

Rear ones could be isolated from the front leaving the "Little Angels" more than a tad frustrated! :D Not so now... :o
