Hello.

I have a large puddle of water in the front passange footwell. I've had the windscreen checked and he says its ok.

I've found that when it rains, the rain water seems for sit under the door seal on the main body of the car and then drains into the footwell. (sorry about the description here but don't know how to describe it!) the water seems to be coming from the engine, by the vents and stuff and the top just under the windscreen. The thing it The Man at the garage said that he cound dismantle all the 'stuff' under the bonnet to get to the vents and see if some of drain hole are blocked (there does seem to be leaves and silt sitting in there) but it would take him some time and could cost me over

Hit the search engine and type in Scuttle Drains, these are most likely what your mechanic is on about, save your cash and DIY it's an easy enough job <_<

hi i would also look behind the cover where the hose for the rear windscreen washer if you have one that is as these are known to come apart and when you use the washer it dont go the rear to wash the windscreen it goes in the footwell just a suggestion for you to look at

Hi, the Haynes manual won't really help you for this particular problem but is worth getting for general help with niggly problems. If I remember right, there are three bolts holding the panel on under the wiper linkages, undo those and have a good look round the holes under there as they are prone to clogging up causing water ingress. Also check the screenwash hose at its joints along the bottom of the passenger door as someone suggested.

had this prob on my old sharan 97 model.

it was the drain holes in engine bay clogged with leaves. prodded with coat hanger then problem went.

but that was after i found the ecu under pass seat was immersed under water.

new galaxy i got no probs, but i keep a eye on drain holes

Don't know if this may help, I originally posted it back in July 2005.

Had a water ingress problem on mine. Cleaned the scuttle drains, checked the sunroof drains, inspected the rear wash pipe and removed the vent fan to see if there was any water in the duct system. Everything checked out, but water was still getting in.

Final effort was to check around the external corner trims at the bottom of the windscreen. Removed wiper arm first, then carefully lifted off trim from 3 push in clips. The upper clip fixing had a sticky backed pad around the hole as well as being set in some silicone. This hole leads directly into the space along the back of the dashboard inside the car. The silicone had dried out and cracked and the whole area around the clip was full of dirt. Removed clip cleaned area and did away with sticky pad and old silicone. Reset clip back into hole with plenty of fresh silicone and re-assembled.

Did this on both sides. There has been no sign of any more leaks since.

May be worth a try!

Hi,

I had a nicely flooded passenger footwell a couple of years ago, traced to the rear washer hose splitting at a check valve.

This winter I had the same thing, the symptoms are a pathetic squirt from the rear washer and quite a delay from pushing the lever to getting any water out of the jet.

I have now pushed the connector back together , and "bandaged" it up with some duct tape.

I believe the joint separated this last time on a cold morning when the read jet was probably frozen!!

Look for the symptoms before finding mushrooms on the carpet!

Also does anyone know how to dry a parking sensor?

Rich

I had the same problem, flooded n/s passenger footwell, turned out to be the rear wash hose connection located in the trim panel in the n/s front passenger threshold, its come apart twice now, takes ages to bail out

I have the opposite problem

The passenger footwell is as dry as a bone. I have done a search but can't find any answers to this problem.

Also while checking, I noticed no problems with the MAF sensor, no smoke from the auxillary heater, I recoded a new spare key, and found out how to change the broken speaker grills.

I also have a feeling that I will be able to find a lead for VAG-COM, a supplier of cheap wiperblades, and I will be happy with the next main dealer service.

Any advice?
