Guest SA Intruder Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Won't fall apart, but they are bloody annoying. I suggest you get them done outside the franchise. The links are about Quote
Guest jimjams Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Thanks that was a prompt reply! Looks like I wont have to pinch the kids piggy bank money! Quote
Guest T120 Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 JimJamsI changed mine by just jacking up the front and removing the wheels took me half to threequarters of an hour, tip jack both sides up and put on axel stands as the antiroll bar trys to level the wheels up if you don't! :( Quote
Guest Dave TDI Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Hi everyone Having just read this thread, could somebody be kind enough to explain to me what these links are?I may have the same problem.I have a rattle in the location of the front wheels when going over bumbs etc.I did think it might be the plastic center trim of the wheel rattling! Thanks in advancedDave Quote
seatkid Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Anti roll bar links - links the antiroll bar to the main struts They can be changed in situ without lifting the car - just a bit arkward cos of the torque required to undo/redo nuts. Tinyest bit of play in the ball joints and it sounds as if your suspension is falling to bits over bumps. Quote
Guest jimjams Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Thanks seatkid. Excellent pictures. I've been quoted Quote
Guest Dave TDI Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Streetkid Thanks for the picture and info.I take it you also have to disconect the other end (towards to bottom of the picture) as well? T120 says "tip jack both sides up and put on axel stands as the antiroll bar trys to level the wheels up if you don't!" Where is the best place to place the axel stands?Does it matter if the antiroll bar tries to level the wheels? I have got to change all my brake discs and pads soon so will have a go at the links at the same time! Where is the best place to purchase these links? Is it best to replace the nuts or can you use the old?Does anyone know the part number/s? Thanks in advanceDave Quote
Guest T120 Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Dave TdiBack on line again CPU cooling fins cleaned of dust temp down to 48 and fan spinning up to 4,5k rpm. :D Where is the best place to place the axel stands?Jack up on normal jacking points as though changing a wheel and put axial stands under the inner jacking point see manual, then remove wheels. this is how I did it for the first time. :o Does it matter if the antiroll bar tries to level the wheels?Yes as you will not get the link off or on easly. :o I have got to change all my brake discs and pads soon so will have a go at the links at the same time!If your going to do the brakes at the same time this is the best way to do it, safety note push the wheel under the car so if anything happens it will only drop as far aa the wheel and no further. :o Where is the best place to purchase these links?I bought genuine Fraud ones part# 1009591 @ Quote
Guest Dave TDI Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 I checked my links over the weekend and found no play in them! However I did find the cause of the rattle. It turned out to be the one of the plastic centre trims of the wheels rattling.I removed all four plastic trims went for a spin around the block and discovered no rattling noise.I found one of the center fixing lugs of the trim rattling missing.I haven't obtained a quote from fords for a new one yet.I might get some double sided sticky tape to secure the trim to the wheel Dave TDI Quote

MrT Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 That doesn't sound like Allen's, or at least how they used to be. From your registration number or VIN, Ford's Microcat system can identify the exact part required for your vehicle. Quote
Topbloke Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 you may find the part number on the reverse side of the trim there may be several numbers one should be part number and other denotes what its made off for recycling purposes Quote
