obee Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Hi All, We have been having problems with starting the Gal since we bought her. From reading on here (v. useful site :( ) it could be the inhibitor switch in the auto gear lever housing. So, does anyone know the product code for this switch as the local garage tried to get one but were sent the wrong switch and are now stumped ? TIA OBee Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Are you sure it's the switch? have you bypassed it to see if the problem stops? VW part nos. 7M2 927 149 B. BULB HOLDER WITH BULB STARTER INHIBITOR SWITCH Quote
obee Posted February 8, 2007 Author Report Posted February 8, 2007 I'm not sure whether its the switch or not to be honest. How do you bypass it to find out ? Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 unplug the switch and short out the plug to it, if the car now starts without any messing about then replace/adjust the switchas needed? Quote
obee Posted February 9, 2007 Author Report Posted February 9, 2007 Sorry for the daft questions, but where is the inhibitor switch and how do I get to it ? Just ordered a Haynes manual for the Gal as I think I may need it !!! Quote
greg_68 Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 On the side of the knob at the top there is a little screw. Undo that and the top of the gear lever comes off.Slide the tube bit off the gear stick.Gently prise the trim with the illuminated parts up.You will then be able to see the inhibtor switch. Quote
