Guest andrewow Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I am buying a 1996 galaxy ghia thats fitted with 6 seats and would like to fit a seventh seat does anyone know if this is possible? Also would a coplete set of seats from a 2002 Galaxy fit into the 1996 car with no hassle? Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 You should check the cabin floor. I would expect that the floor would have anchor points for the feet of the seats to lock into a number of different positions in the middle row. My car does although it is a 2003 model. Unless someone else can give you a categoric assurance that the seats between the pre & post facelift models are interchangeable then I would suggest this. Take the car to a dealer and ask them if they would mind having just one seat from their newish used Galaxy on the forecourt tested in your pre-facelift model. I reckon they would oblige. Not sure about the front seats though. Apart from the front seats the process of removing seats and putting them back in is straightforward and takes just a minute per seat. All the best. Blatters PS. Regarding the middle row, you can't mix & match. I think you would need three normal seats as the captains seats you have (with arm rests on?) are too wide to squeeze a third seat in. But I don't think would need to change the back row or front seats? Quote
marinabrid Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I PUT A MK 2 SEAT IN OUR MK 1 NO PROBLEMS AT ALL IN THE MIDDLE WITH A KID SEAT IN. ALSO YOU MAY NEED TO CHECK YOUR LOG BOOK IT MAY SAY 6 SEATS IN WHICH CASE YOU MAY NEED TO RELL EM YOU GOT 7 Quote
Guest andrewow Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Thanks for such early replies. I have looked back at some pevious questions, I'm sure that the entire middle row of seats cannot have armrests, there just isn't sufficient width. The significnant point seems to be whether the the floor pan has the attachment points for 3 seats in the middle row, it seems logical that all floor pans would be the same and possibly on the 6 seater the centre fixings are just covered over with carpet etc. but from the earlier questions it appears this may not be the case? Do any 6 seat owners out there know the answer? I know it would be easier just to buy a 7 seater, but the particular car I'm intertested in runs on LPG hence my interest, a set of seconhand seats is cheaper than an LPG conversion! Cheers - Andrew Quote
MrT Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 It is not just the centre seat fixings to be considered, the existing two middle row seats have to move outwards towards the doors. I thought about this a while back and I got as far as finding out that there were not different floor pans listed for the six and seven seat models in the parts catalogue. I never got as far as taking the carpets up to have a look. Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Also, if you install Mk2 Galaxy middle seats be careful with the very middle seat. Later Galaxy models (including my 2003 car) have three point seat belts that require the seat belt reel mounted in the ceiling just behind the offside middle seat. You would need one of the middle seats from the earlier facelifted Galaxy models that include a lap belt. Blatters Quote
bigdaddy Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Mine's a 98 model,,,,,,,,,,7 seats,,,,,,,,but looking at the floor there are other anchor points so I can change the seats to 6,,,,,,,,,if I take out the middle seat I can move the 2 seats in towards each other about 4inch Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I have a VR6 Carat with 6 seats factory fitted, and you categorically CANNOT have 7! There, OK? Quote
Guest andrewow Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Thank you for your helpful responses, I have decided not to purchase the car as I really need a 7 seater. Andrew Quote
AndeeeH Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Before you give up on the idea completely, it can be done. I did my six seater so I could take seven of us away for the weekend. The captain chairs will definately not fit 3 across, I borrowed some normal ones for the trip. As for the mounting points: the bolt holes are already in the floor pan but you will need the brackets that the seats mount on to about Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 ....So you need three new seats and three new pairs of brackets together with trim covers. Would you say that this was a practical solution? In fact the only thing you're not doing is drilling the damn holes yourself which would be a minor consideration by comparison! :) I think that we would all agree that given the inclination and skill almost anything is achievable, twin engined Shalaxy anyone (double redundancy you understand)? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Who says you need three new seats? :o all you needis one center row, center seat with a lap strap, then you need the 12 mounting plates and trims, three new seats is a bit over top considering all you need to do is unbolt the arms off the existing seats and move them outboard into the new mounts ;) Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 This car we're building here is gonna look pretty genuine by the time we're finished ;) "Yep, all original factory fit pieces and carefully looked after interior" Blatters Quote
Guest marcusheawood Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 LAP STRAP!! LAP STRAP!!!!!!!!! Kill your own children, I want nothing more to do with it! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 LAP STRAP!! LAP STRAP!!!!!!!!! Kill your own children, I want nothing more to do with it! http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/images/smilies/bird.gif As the car is originally a SIX seater it doesnt come with the roof mount retractor so a lap strap is the only option! unless the OP wants to fit an after market three point kit? Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Wouldn't it be easier to simply slice the car in half and then weld the back 1/3rd of a post 2002 Galaxy back on. Benefit being a ready fitted roof mounted inertia reel seat belt mounting. If your gonna do it then you might as well go the whole hog. So that's one extra item in the shopping basket on top of the brackets and bolts etc. Blatters (chill out) ;) Quote
