  1. Thanks to iantt who provided the following solution. Cut away a flap at the rear of the plastic cover seen on the floor of the boot. The edge of the latch is visible either through a slot or at the back (towards the front of the car) of the steel plate. Pry this to the right and the latch pops. No need to cut the boot trim, which at least on my model has no attachment screws ( someone else told there were), just clips all round requiring brute force and ignorance to separate it from the door. I still have to resolve the underlying problem, which does not seem to be damaged wiring where the wires enter the boot.
