  1. Hi, Thanks I can relate to what you've said there, that would explain the intermittent fault. I guess I'll have to get my local garage to look at it as I can't get under it to remove the belly pan. Cheers
  2. Hi all, My starter works fine for days then randomly is totally dead. Sometimes it plays up, then works, other times its fine (although its fairly slow turning over). Sometimes its just totally dead. I have read as many posts on here as I can find, Seems that people have changed starters and its worked for some but not others, There's the relay 30 issue, I don't think mine is that. When it fails, all I get it a relay click and nothing from the starter at all. One occasion RAC got it going with a jump start, the next time this failed and it needed bumping.. Drove home, tried it and it was dead. Got up this morning and it starts fine. Battery is fine and connections good. Alternator is a bit rattly but seems to be charging ok. Has anyone found the real problem with all of this, I can try and take the starter off and check the contacts/ brushes but don't want to spend time on the wrong job. Cheers
  3. Update: Turns out one of the wires I had soldered before had broken next to the joint but the heatshrink was keeping it together meaning I couldn't tell the wire was broken. The other symptoms I had were the central locking didn't do the drivers door and also the petrol cap lock went mental. Still, all fixed now.
  4. ok, guess I'll get a second hand one and see if it fixes everything. I'll let you know
  5. Thanks, I've checked the wires, already soldered new patches in a year ago. That was my first port of call. I was just wondering if its a know problem.
  6. I replaced my head unit recently with a Sony DAB radio, bluetooth etc, the sound quality was amazing. Inspired by this I decided to upgrade the speakers as well. After much searching and consideration I bought some Vibe slick s6 v5 speakers, rated at 80w rms. The head unit pumps out 55w RMS so I thought that would be fine. Having replaced one speaker so far I can say that fading from the new speaker to the original in the other door there is a noticeable difference. The oringinal speakers in a 2004 ghia are far superior to the aftermarket ones. Now I know I didn't buy top quality speakers but I'm just letting people know that unless you do, then save your money, the factory fitted speakers are much better than cheap (better rated) alternatives.
  7. Hi all, My drivers door elec window has failed, from the control panel I cannot operate any of the other windows, they do work off their own door controls. I have disconnected the plug to the motor on the drivers door window and I can now operate the other windows. Does this mean it is the motor/actuator ? What is there a difference between the two ? Having looked on fleabay, there seems to be a confusing amount of fix it packs. Has anyone done this job, is it easy? Thanks Dave 2004 Mk2 1.9Tdi Ghia
